Research & internships
A working facility to research with.
The Hub runs the full Black Soldier Fly lifecycle, an industrial composting line and planted treatment ponds on one site. Researchers and students are welcome to work with us.

What you can study here
Four areas we work on.
Black Soldier Fly breeding
Breeding colonies, hatchery, incubation and the full lifecycle, run at commercial scale.
Composting microbiology
Bacteria that speed up breakdown and control odour, and frass as a compost inoculant.
Natural water treatment
Phytoremediation ponds planted with duckweed and water hyacinth.
Insects as feed
Live and dried larvae as feed for fish, poultry and other animals.
Internships
Hands-on placements for students.
Agriculture and biotechnology students work alongside our team across breeding, larvae rearing, composting and water treatment.

Where you will work
From weighbridge to lab, on one site.
The Hub sits in rural country about 38 km from Kuching, near the forested limestone hills of Bau.
- 01
Receiving
A weighbridge at the main entrance logs every load in and out. Manure, food waste and green waste each have their own unloading bay.
- 02
Processing
The climate-controlled fly breeding building, the multi-layer rearing racks and the aerobic composting troughs.
- 03
Refining and dispatch
Trommel sieves, crushers, automated bagging lines and a dry warehouse for finished product.
- 04
Office and laboratory
The site office, a laboratory for biological quality and feed testing, and staff facilities.
